A: In most circumstances, the answer is simple: add a subwoofer. Yes, for many people, subwoofers have a reputation for “boom-boom” – that car you can hear a block away. That’s unfortunate, because a properly done subwoofer can not only extend the bass, but will also take a huge load off the main speakers. Adjusted for sound quality (instead of boom-boom), an aftermarket sub will allow your stock system to play cleaner, louder and lower.
A: We know you can always find cheap prices on equipment on the internet. It’s a fact of life for all local businesses, and we have no problem installing your equipment for you, as we consider ourselves an installation shop, more than an equipment store. However, there are a few facts you should consider (that others before you have learned to their distress).
First, we stand by all of our installations, and that includes the equipment. If something breaks, and you bought it from us, not only will we replace it (probably the same day), but the labor will cost you nothing. If you bring us someone else’s equipment, and it breaks, there’s not much we can do for you. You’ll have to send it back yourself, and wait for the new or repaired equipment before you’ll get your music back. Bring us broken equipment in the first place (happens more often than you’d expect), and we’ll need to charge you for labor whether it works or not.
Also, most Internet shops are NOT authorized retailers for the products they sell. As such, it’s up to them to honor the warranty, not the manufacturer. We ARE authorized retailers for everything we sell, so you’ll never be left out in the cold.
Next, we sell what we know works. Virtually everyone who does their own shopping on the internet ends up with something that disappoints. There is a lot of cool looking stuff out there, but we know how to do the right system for your car. Chances are, the $20 you saved ordering from Cheapcarstereo.com will end up costing you $200 in quality.
Lastly, our installation prices are package deals. You might be surprised at how little you will save by ordering on the internet (quite possibly nothing at all).
A: Honestly, our prices are rarely beat by any established shop, but yes, there’s always someone desperate enough to undercut us. Check their reputaion. Will they be around a year from now when you need service? Do they know their stuff like we do? Will their lack of expertise affect the quality of your system? A year from now you won’t notice the extra $50 you spent but you will notice the inferior system you were sold by the Chop Shop that undercut us.
A: Unfortunately, this is almost never the case. We really are pros at what we do. There has never been a system brought to us, where the owner has attempted the installation, where we haven’t had to do extra work to undo what the owner already messed up (if it wasn’t messed up, you wouldn’t have had to bring it to us in the first place). I’m sure you do what you do for a living better than we could. So let us do what we do best.
A: This is a complicated topic, with a number of factors, but the most important of which is your vehicle. Manufacturers do not make it easy on us, and some vehicles may take twice as long as others. We’re going to give you the best price we can, but if the manufacturer of your vehicle made it tough on us, we have no choice but to pass the labor cost onto you. If we didn’t, we’d be out of business.
Being a nice person with a good attitude will probably also help. Our sales people are only human 🙂
A: Pretty simple answer to this one. Every dollar we save on non-essentials allows us to be more competitive on the price of your system. You’re not going to spend much time in our shop, but you will spend a LOT of time in your vehicle. Wouldn’t you rather we put the money into a better install?
A: Along with the previous answer there’s also the unfortunate fact that how certain equipment sounds in a showroom has almost no bearing on how it will sound in your car. There is a solution to this issue though: ask us. We really are the experts, and if you tell us your budget and what you’re looking for, chances are we can recommend the exact equipment to meet your needs.
A: There is a lot of good stuff out there (and some not so good). Far more than we can carry. We can get you anything, probably within a day, but it comes down to knowing our customers. We carry a selection of equipment that we know works and works well. It covers 95% of any installation we’d do, and allows us to keep our prices low. If you have a special situation, we’ll definitely accommodate you, However, the vast majority of the time, when a customer wants a specific brand we don’t recommend, they end up regretting not following our advice.
A: All of the electronics we sell carry a one year warranty that we honor in house. This means that most of the time, we will be able to replace it with an in-stock product and we’ll do the leg work of sending in the product and getting a replacement to restock. Our labor is warrantied for life, as long as you or another shop does not modify the work we’ve done. We also offer an extend service plan that guaranties all our labor, and equipment for two years. Our tint is warrantied for as long as you own the vehicle and if you’ve seen tint gone bad (who hasn’t) you know how important that reassurance is.
A: Quick answer, yes! The factory will design a system to satisfy “most” customers, and will do it as inexpensively as possible, so that they can pay licensing fees (to JBL, Bose, Infinity etc), and also put a HUGE markup on the system. When you actually remove these systems from the vehicle, you end up very disappointed in the quality of the equipment. The speakers are cheaper than our most bargain speaker. The amps are lower power than our lowest power amps, and the subs may be well tuned, but are small and incapable of reproducing any significant bass. We’ve never seen a factory system we can’t improve, and for less cost than you paid the factory for the upgraded system in the first place.
A: Yes, we are authorized Parrot installers, and we can add a great handsfree Bluetooth system to almost any vehicle. If your vehicle is more than 5 years old, you may be better off replacing the factory radio with a new, Bluetooth enabled radio. Not only will you get top of the line Bluetooth, integrated with no extra screens or controls, but you’ll get a radio with more inputs, and more capability. All for about the same price as adding a separate system. Stop in and we’ll show you your options.
A: See answer to Bluetooth above. Yes we can, but you may be pleasantly surprised to find we can update your radio for less than you think.
A: If you bought it from us, then of course. If you bought it from someone else, we can fix their mess but will have to charge you an hourly rate. It may be impossible for us to quote it ahead of time, since we have no idea what sort of mess they made. If it’s the factory system, we can probably replace the damaged components less expensively and with higher quality components. Your best bet with repairs is to bring the vehicle in and let us take a no cost look at it and let you know what your options are.
